St. Mary’s has long been associated with Music and the school Musical staged by Transition Year students very much part of the school tradition. In 1974 the late Mother Benedict introduced the people of Ballina to the wonderful talents of the St. Mary’s girls with the school production of “Zurika” and since then the school hall has echoes to the sounds of the great musical composers as the students performed to packed audiences in shows such as “Les Miserables” , “My Fair Lady”, “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Grease” amongst others.

In 2015 the musical was “Hairsprayed” and the hall rocked to numbers such as “Bop to the Top”. 2016 showcased the talents of the Transition year Class in “Illegally Blonde” which followed the story of Elle Woods and her unrequited love for the ambitious Warner. Our own adaptation of Billy Elliot became ‘Billie’ in 2018 and 2019 saw the return of ABBA songs to our stage with wonderful ‘Mama Mia Papa Mia’! We are currently working on our version of Sister Act for 2020!

St. Mary's Secondary School hope to join in the fun and is encouraging as many of our students and staff as possible to take part. Over the next week, girls wishing to take part will be provided with 8 week training plans to prepare them for the day.
