St Mary’s has a strong reputation for their public speaking and debating skills that is enshrined in the legacy of the school.
With guidance from their Debating and Public Speaking Co-Coordinator Ms. Wall they have had many successes. They have participated in various competitions and have reached regional and national level from Concern, Denny Debating competition to the Mayo Mental Health Public Speaking Competition.
The Senior team was recently invited to attend a workshop given by the Trinity Philspeak members in Galway University on the 25th of October. The girls had a tough fighting day but enjoyed it greatly and have formed links with other keen debaters from schools all over Ireland. Out of our six students four were chosen to attend a two day debating workshop in Trinity in January.
St Mary’s debaters also received the prestigious honour of being selected to attend debating workshops in order to form an Irish Worlds School Debating team for the competition this year in Bali in July.
