Wah Ku Say receives Garda Youth Award

Congratulations to our amazing student Wah Ku Say who received the overall Youth Award for the Ballina District at the Mayo Garda Youth Awards at the weekend. Wah Ku Say won the award for overcoming difficult circumstances as a refugee fleeing Burma. With little English on arrival, she will now sit most Leaving Cert subjects at a higher level! Wah Ku Say involved herself in every programme she could in our school to better herself and to help others. She is the head of the Green School Committee and leader of St Mary's Young Pioneers. She has organised environmental awareness weeks in school and has trained as a Water Ambassador, where she completed beach cleans and waterways training. She is also a member of Young St Vincent De Paul and as a result received a Pope John Paul Award for all her voluntary work with them. She assists local Burmese kids in her community with their learning. What an amazing role model! Well done to her teacher Jessica Wall and to our other fabulous students pictured below who were nominated for Garda Youth Awards. Well done girls!
