The finishing touches are being put to St. Mary’s Secondary School debut musical in the all-girls new state-of-the-art school campus.

With over one hundred students bringing this original production to life with a brand-new script and fully in-house led production; this show on February 9 and 10 next, is not to be missed.

Come along and meet showbiz’s next big thing - Doris, Ruth and Helen a.k.a The Blondelles. Young (and in love) and with a residency at The Palace Theatre, life is looking good for the girls and their star is well and truly rising. That is, until President Roosevelt declares America is entering World War II. Life has changed forever. The world is imploding – along with the girls dreams of superstardom – and their love lives.

Spot-lights and synchronized dance steps are replaced with tears and tantrums, loneliness and longing as Doris, Ruth and Helen are parted from Ed, John and Rob – but can the girls work out a way to reunite with their boys? Or will the world at war decree that sometimes, goodbyes really are forever?

“Sing! Sing! Sing!” is a story of love and loyalty and, told through a spectacular stage extravaganza of drama, dance, music and memories which follows our American wartime sweethearts – who epitomise the “We’re all in this together” spirit that keeps friendships afloat. With classic hits from the big band notes of the title song to the dulcet tones of "Unchained Melody", club classic "Fever" and even the stoic "We'll Meet Again" - as well as a few rock 'n roll numbers in between; you'll be singing and swinging in the aisles. This original show follows the highs and lows of post Wall-Street Crash America and will leave you breathless.

With an extensive cast and crew behind the scenes from make-up to curtain call, this year’s show comes hot on the heels of the 2022 musical “Jersey Girls” and it the latest production for the all-girls school which prides itself on its tradition of musical theatre – spanning over an impressive four decades.

Taking time out of rehearsals, Producer and Choreographer, Annette Leonard said: "This show is very special. It is a brand-new stage production, written and staged completely in-house and, as such, is one of our most ambitious shows to date. We are really excited to finally show off the hard work and talent of our students!" Annette is ably assisted by Sharon Cullinane in the Choreography Department as well as Acting Directors Sinead Leonard and Anna Marie Henry. The Home Economics Department, Anita Ginley, Regina Hallahan and Marie Clarke are coordinating costumes, while the Art Department’s Renee Cronin, Martin Browne and Christy Donnelly are spearheading staging and set design. With Jessica Wall and her team in the make-up room. Denise Kilgallon on hair and Colm Leonard on lights, this is one of the most ambitious shows to date, not to mention the Box Office team, Backstage Crew and Supervision team.

Musical Director, Ms Regina Deacy added: "This stage show really takes us back to the big band era of 1930s wartime America. The sound is truly unique, with Transition Years supported by the Second Year chorus line, we have planned classics - as well as a few surprises - which will have you singing along and maybe even dancing in the aisles! This story is really brought to life through a lovely selection of music and song."

Extending a warm welcome to all, Principal Mr Robert O'Reilly noted: "As always, staff and students have come together to write, plan, produce and showcase this year's musical which really is a highlight in our Transition Year programme. This year, we cannot wait to welcome our audience to a brand new, state of the art St. Mary's for our debut musical here. Our campus is of the highest standard and I can guarantee, our 2023 show will follow suit.”

"Shows like this don't happen overnight. The final production is the result of months of hard work and dedication by staff and students, spearheaded by our current TY cohort. It is a credit to all involved. "

The 2023 musical “Sing! Sing! Sing!” takes place in the new campus’ School Hall with performance at 7.30pm nightly. Raffle each night.
