Welcome to St. Mary's Secondary School, BALLINA.

The school with a warm welcome, a caring heart and a guarantee of excellence.

Patsy Sweeney

While basking in the success of another amazingly successful year of endeavour and achievement at St. Mary’s Secondary School Ballina we first wish to congratulate all our Leaving Certificate students on their results.

Our definition of success has always been “that every girl will be the best that she can be” and so we celebrate the success of each and every one of our girls from those who got over 600 points to the girls who safely passed every subject.

But realistically it is in the area of academic excellence that every school is challenged to achieve and again for St Mary’s this school year has just been book-ended by yet another massive performance by our Leaving Certificate students, with the whole school community celebrating everything from Serena Tuffy’s 6A1s, the 25 % who scored over 500 CAO points (up from 16% last year), the 56% who scored in excess of 400 points (up from 50% last year) the number of Distinctions in LCVP and LCA and most importantly the number of girls who, in passing their Leaving Certificate achieved their absolute potential and left with a smile on their faces as broad as Killala Bay!

The school salutes each and every one of our wonderful girls and thanks them for not only bringing joy and celebration to their parents and families but also for all the joy and celebration they have brought to St. Mary’s these past 6 years!

Now all safely embarked on the next stage of their academic journey- results received, CAO offers received today and celebrations continuing – our thoughts now turn to the new group of students who will grace the hallowed halls of this great institution for the first time, and to those students returning to continue the journey already begun. St Marys welcomes you all with open arms and as we always say on opening day “on a day when newcomers appear let if feel like a homecoming” … we hope you are all looking forward to that joy of homecoming next week.
